"I can prepare scrambled eggs or boiled sausages" – interview with Jan Blachowicz

Today we present you with the second part of Jan Blachowicz’s interview, where the standout light heavyweight talks about his private life.

Let’s talk about your private life. What kind of person are you?
- You should ask people that know me. My opinion might be a little bit biased. I think I’m a cool guy, though. I treat every other person equally. I don’t care about their position or wealth, the character is what’s most important. Obviously if someone is not fair in relations with me, I’ll let him know about that.
What is your best feature of character?
- Being an optimist. Even in worse situations I see bright sides and try to draw positive conclusions for the future.
What about the worst feature?
- hmmm... hmm... I have no idea. You have to ask my girlfriend Dorota.
Janek tell us about your social life. You’ve trained combat sports since you were a kid. Did you have time to meet with friends?
- When I was sixteen to eighteen I rarely refused any partying offers. Later I just didn’t have time. At sixteen I got my first bouncer job and I worked for the next ten years. I don’t like to get to extremes. Trainings were always a priority, but I always found time to have a social life.
You had the time for training, for work and for friends. What about love?
- My current girlfriend Dorota is my first and the only love.
Is it your first serious relationship?
- I didn’t look for it till I found it two years ago (laughs).
Do you ever think about marriage, kids, setting up home?
- It’s a distant future for me. I don’t have my own flat yet, I don’t have a job. Although I opened a shop with Wojtek Orlowski, time will tell if it’s successful. In order to set up home you need permanent source of income.
Tell us about your shop. What is the idea behind it?
- I’m an athlete, but it’s a risky sport. One injury and your career is finished. Thanks to MMA I had some contacts, Wojciech had his and we decided to open a shop with clothes and shoes. We owe a lot to our Silesian friend who after had closed his shop sold us some of his stuff. We are also thankful to Mirek from Mevago who helps us all the time.
What about your future. Where do you see yourself in ten years?
- Hmmm... in ten years I’ll be thirty-seven. At the top of the MMA rankings!
And in your private life?
- Three cars, a big house with a swimming pool, holidays in Mallorca and all that stuff (laughs). That’s what I want, we’ll see what happens.
Are you a good cook?
- I can prepare scrambled eggs or boil sausages...
That’s easy, anything more complicated?
- I’m to impatient to be a cook. I’ll never be good at it.
What are your favorite dishes?
- Pork chop, potatoes and red beets are at the top. I like dumplings and broth as well.
You were born in Silesia. Do you like any traditional Silesian dishes?
- I like everything my mum prepares, she’s a world class cook!
