KSW 18: Niko Puhakka vs. Artur Sowinski for the lightweight title The first KSW show in 2012 and the first one in Plock will feature the first lightweight title bout in the history of the leading European promotion. Don’t miss KSW 18 – Unfinished Sympathy on February 25th in Plock!
Two KSW regulars will go to war in the battle for the vacant championship belt. Finnish standout Niko Puhakka will square off against Polish sensation Artur Sowinski in the much anticipated showdown. The fight is signed for three five-minute rounds in the under seventy kilograms weight division. Get ready for some great MMA action!

Artur Sowinski fights out of Katowice’s Silesian Cage Club where he trains under Tomasz Bronder. He has been gunning for the title for quite some time collecting three straight KSW victories in 2011. In January the popular Kornik stopped Paul Reed, he outpointed Cengiz Dana later in May and finally in November, he scored an unbelievable upset knockout over UFC vet Maciej Jewtuszko. This last win convinced KSW promoters to award him the long-awaited title shot. – I’m extremely happy to get this opportunity. I proved with my last three KSW outings that I deserve this fight. It will be another step forward in my MMA career – the Radzionkow born fighter says.

Finnish MMA veteran is also no stranger to Polish fans as he has fought here twice already. Puhakka competed in KSW 14 lightweight tournament when he decisively beat both Borys Mankowski and Danny Van Bergen to advance to the final. Six months later at KSW 15, he outclassed Maciej Gorski to win the whole tourney.
Espoon Kehahait product has an extensive resume in the sport. He fought for top European organizations such as M-1 Global and his home countrie’s Fight Festival. He’s also ranked number three in European Top Ten rankings. Niko was a natural candidate for the championship fight after his victory in the tournament. There were many names thrown around as his potential opponents but KSW promoters didn’t want to make hasty decisions in this matter. Finally Artur Sowinski got the call.

Sowinski versus Puhakka KSW 18 confrontation has another interesting angle. Both fighters have already met in the ring. In June 2010 the Finn earned a decision victory over the Polish lightweight in three very competitive rounds. – I’ve already fought Niko and I know what he’s capable of. This time I’ll have my hand raised – Sowinski promises.

Will he keep his promise? Who will capture the prestigious KSW lightweight belt? Those questions will be answered on February 25th in Plock.
