“I will beat him up” – interview with Mateusz Gamrot

Two talented KSW newcomers will lock horns at the June 8th KSW23 event in Ergo Arena in Sopot/Gdańsk. We have already talked to Mateusz Zawadzki, now it is the right time to question the Ankos Zapasy Poznań product Mateusz Gamrot. If you want to know how “Gamer” reacted to signing with KSW, what he thinks about Zawadzki and what his goals are, read the interview below.

Hello Mateusz. Let me start with a question about your health. Do you have any injuries?

-My health is perfectly fine. I feel great and my endurance is growing strong. Fortunately I’m free of any injuries.

For the bout against Mateusz Zawadzki you are training mostly in Ankos Zapasy Poznań with your coach Andrzej Kościelski. However, you have recently visited Berserkers Team Szczecin and Piotr Bagiński. Do you plan any other training trips?

-I train in Ankos Zapasy Poznań under the watchful eye of great coach Andrzej Kościelski for each of my fights. I visited my friends in Berserkers Team and spent a week there. They gave me valuable advice and helped me a lot, which I’m really thankful for. It was my only trip outside of Poznań, I’ll stay here training until my fight.

What can you tell about the fighters who help you in your preparations. They are some of the most highly-ranked Polish fighters.

-I’m really happy, I’m able to train with such renowned fighters. I’m thankful for it and I’ll do everything in my power to help them when they need it. I try to gather pieces of advice from everyone I train with and then analyze them. I learn from my mistake and I feel I’m getting better with every sparring session.

Your manager Mariusz Stachowiak needed a few weeks to close the negotiations with KSW Federation about your contract. You came to Warsaw, signed the papers and now you are officially a KSW fighter. What was going through your mind when you put your name on the contract?

-I’m grateful to my manager, for what he did to me. When signing the contact, I was really content as fighting for KSW was one of my dreams. I came to realize that thanks to Mariusz and coach Andrzej we signed this deal, but now it’s my turn to bring them the KSW title.

You are set to face Mateusz Zawadzki at KSW 23. I talked to him a few weeks ago and he told me that it would be his first bout at lightweight since him being an amateur. It probably means he will be much heavier than you come fight time. Do you consider this a disadvantage for you?

-I don’t care about it. In my team , there are plenty of fighters who are stronger and bigger than me, so Zawadzki’s weight won’t be a problem.

Have you watched any of Zawadzki’s fights? What can you tell us about his strengths?

-I saw a few. He’s a well-rounded fighter, but like everyone he has weaknesses and is beatable. My goal is to become the KSW champion, that’s my focus, this fight is just one of many on my path.

Zawadzki says that you will not surprise him with your guillotines neither anything else. Do you plan to use something no one has seen before in your repertoire?

-Every fight is different and unfolds in a different way. He should be wary of my guillotines as he will realize what power I bring to the table.

What would you tell to Zawadzki a few weeks before your encounter?

-What would I tell? I hope he will be ready as I’m going to beat him up!

How would you encourage fans to the buy the KSW 23 PPV?

-I encourage all the fans to watch KSW 23. It will be a remarkable show and the great spectacle.
