Wiktoria Czyżewska and Sara Luzar Smajić will clash in the co-main event of XTB KSW 118 in a historic bout to decide the inaugural KSW Women’s Bantamweight Champion, on May 16 in Kalisz, Poland.
At just 22 years of age, Poland's Wiktoria "Chicatoro" Czyżewska (7-1) has established herself as one of the most promising young talents in MMA with a clinical and fearsome reputation in the cage. Her 6-1 KSW record features four first round knockout stoppages and a current five-fight win steak.
Croatia’s Sara "Guerreira" Luzar Smajić (6-3) returns to KSW after impressive results in her last two outings, resulting in a historic opportunity to clinch the inaugural title in the biggest fight of her career and launch a new division.
You have the chance to become the first-ever KSW Women’s Bantamweight Champion. What does it mean to you to fight for an inaugural title?
Czyżewska: “It means everything to me to fight for the inaugural title, and for the legacy. When you become first person to do something it stays forever written in time, and I want to be a first Balkan woman to win the KSW belt.”
Luzar-Smajić: “Becoming the first-ever KSW Women’s Bantamweight Champion would be the biggest milestone of my career, it means everything. It’s about winning a belt and it’s about making history. For me personally, it represents years of sacrifice, early mornings, late nights in the gym, weight cuts, injuries, and every doubt I’ve had to silence along the way. It’s validation that all of that was worth it. It also means a lot for women’s MMA in Poland and in KSW.”
What challenges do you expect in this fight?
Czyżewska: “Sara is a very dangerous and well-rounded opponent, so I’m expecting a tough fight. She’s tough, experienced, and she brings a lot of pressure. I know she has good striking with heavy hands and solid boxing.”
Luzar-Smajić: “I think Wiktoria is well rounded fighter and she will be a challenge for me in general, which I love because no challenge means no progress! Her progress is huge, and she is getting better from fight to fight.”
What does this new title mean for the future of women in KSW?
Czyżewska: “This new title is a game-changer for women in KSW. It’s the first women’s bantamweight championship in the organization’s history. If my hand is raised and I become the first KSW Women’s Bantamweight Champion, I want to be a champion who inspires the next generation of women in MMA. I want to be an active, fighting champion and not someone who sits on the belt. I plan to defend the title as often as possible and face the best challengers available. That’s how you grow a division.”
Luzar-Smajić: “This new title will mean a lot for the future of women in KSW. I think as soon as you put the belt on the line there is more motivation for fighters in general.”
Upon announcement of the landmark collision, KSW President and Co-Founder, Martin Lewandowski, added: "The introduction of the Women's Bantamweight Championship represents a natural step forward for KSW to expand opportunities for world-class fighters and deliver high-level competition to fans across Europe and beyond. KSW has always been about building stars and showcasing the highest level of competition in a world class MMA spectacle, and this championship fight is another step in that direction.
"Sara and Wiktoria are both excellent fighters who arrive at this moment from different stages of their careers. Both have earned the opportunity to compete for the KSW title and opportunity to showcase the best of themselves in a historic moment, with the winner set to lead the future of women's bantamweight."
