"I prepared a surprise for him" – interview with Antoni Chmielewski
KSW Team fighter Antoni Chmielewski will be featured in one of the main attractions at the upcoming inaugural KSW Fight Club event. In the much anticipated bout the always popular Chmielu will square off against the tough Frenchman Gregory Babene. To make it more interesting it will be Antoni’s middleweight debut. A few days before the bout I talk with Antoni about his preparations, fighting again in the cage and his upcoming opponent.
Hello Antek. On October 9th at KSW Fight Club you will make your middleweight debut. Please tell us what changes you had to make in your diet and supplements you take.
- I’ve changed a lot. I don’t eat as much a I used to. I eat only to satisfy hunger. I eliminated potatoes, bread and candies from my diet and I try not to eat anything fried. As for my supplements I take a lot of l-carnitine.
What about your trainings. Did you change anything? Have you consulted your training regimen with Michal Garnys?
- My trainings have changed diametrically. I used to prepare my training schedule on my own, now Michal Garnys does it. I trust him, I have trained using his methods before the Vanttinen fight just for a month and I almost won. Now I cut down to my natural weight class and the preparations are much longer, they will last more than two months.
You are set to face the Frenchman Gregory Babene, who recently won a respectable middleweight tournament in Russia. Have you seen his fights? What can you tell about his style?
- He’s dynamic and very dangerous in the opening fragments of the fight. I’ve watched his fights and I know that I have to stay calm and don’t let him lure me into his game.
His strengths...
- His stand-up and catlike agility.
His weaknesses...
- We will see, for sure his not timid and fights aggressively.
You mentioned that Babene is an aggressive striker. Can we expect that you will try to take him down and submit him on the ground.
- I don’t want to reveal my strategy, you’ll see all it in the cage. I don’t want him to know anything about my game plan, because he might prepare himself for my surprises (laughing).
KSW Fight Club bout will be held in the cage. You fought in the cage already, how many times?
- It will be my sixth time.
How do you like it? Do you prefer to fight in the cage or in the ring?
- I prefer the cage 100%. There are no downtimes and you can press up your opponent against the fence. When you fight in the cage there is a different feeling, you’ve got this special power, you know!
What do you think about this kind of events like KSW Fight Club. Only 200 people, no cameras and the bouts held in the courtyard of a medieval castle.
- I’m a fighter and I take it like a normal event, the next fight, another possibility to test yourself, that’s why I’m content. As for the closed event for two hundred people, evidently there is a demand for a show in that mold. I hope it will be a success, it will be another place for us to fight. As I said before it doesn’t matter if there are fifteen thousand or two hundred people in attendance. During the fight I’m in there alone, only me and my opponent. I hope the IPLA broadcast will make it up for the fans who won’t be able to attend the show.
Do you want to say anything to your fans to end the interview?
- I invite you all to watch my fight, for the first time at middleweight. I can guarantee it will be a great show. Please support me! Cheers, Antoni Chmielewski.
