"I’m eager to fight in the cage" – interview with Wojciech Orlowski
The co-main event of the KSW Fight Club show will feature the Polish standout wrestler Wojciech Orlowski who will face the Italian striker Matteo Minonzio. The popular Gentleman answers my questions about his preparations, injuries and the cage debut.
Hi Wojtek. How are you preparations going for you fight at KSW Fight Club?
- I’m actually at the end of my training camp. It was really hard this time, because I had some minor injuries and I caught a cold. Fortunately I was able to execute my training plan.
Did you make any changes in your preparations?
- I changed a lot before KSW 13. I started to work with Michal Garnys, and since then he has been helping me. So since KSW 13 nothing’s changed, I train in the same gym, everything is the same.
You are scheduled to face the Italian Matteo Minonzio, who already fought in KSW. What can you tell about him?
- I know that he’s aggressive, more experienced and older than me. I know he hits hard and likes to brawl. I don’t think we will become friends (laughing). If you saw his tattoos, you’d know why.
Minonzio had a really good fight against Peter Ondrus. We know that you’re not exactly a striker, can we expect takedowns and submission attempts from you?
- I have to say that I’m trying to be a well-rounded fighter, so I don’t rule out trading punches with him. It’s obvious that ground game is my bread and butter, however in our gym we train a lot of kickboxing. If it’s hard to put him on his back, I will stand with him. I made a lot of progress in my striking under twelve-time Polish kickboxing champion Andrzej Pniewski, so I’m ready to fight anywhere the fight goes.
KSW Fight Club is directed to a small numbers of viewers and the fights are held in the cage. Have you ever fought in the cage? Does it make any difference to you?
- I haven’t fought in the cage and I’m very eager to try it. Many people say that the cage is safer, because you can’t fell out of it. Apparently it’s also easier to score a takedown there, but I’ll check it myself on October 9th (laughing).
As for the small number of people in attendance, I don’t really care, I fight because I love to do it.
You’ve recently twisted your knee. Is everything alright?
- It’s the beauty of a professional sport, you get injured every know and then. Fortunately everything is fine, but it caused a little trouble. It rule me out from trainings for a few days. On that occasion I’d like to thank Robert Faryj, my rehabilitator.
How big influence had the injury on your preparations?
- We’ll see in the cage.
KSW Fight Club won’t be broadcasted live on TV. Only a small number of people will attend the show in the Ryn castle. What do you think of such an event? Do you think there is demand for it?
- As a fighter I believe that the more shows we have the better. After all everybody can watch it on IPLA sports. In my opinion it’s a interesting concept.
