"I’m extremely well-prepared" – interview with Marcin Najman
How does his last days before the fight look like? What is his game plan to beat his foe? Answers for these questions and much more can be found in the interview with Marcin Najman below.
KSW media training was held a few days ago, but nobody asked you this question. Who are actually preparing with for the bout against Przemyslaw Saleta?
- I’m my own coach before this fight. I’d lie if I tell you that nobody helps me. I train with many great fighters, who help me a lot and I’m grateful for that.
Please tell us sincerely which part of the MMA game you’ve improved the most?
- I focused first and foremost on tapping (laughing).
Are you 100% ready to enter the ring and face Przemyslaw Saleta?
- I’m extremely well-prepared, I’m in the best shape of my life.
Saleta is taller than you, he’s got longer reach and achieved a lot in combat sports. For me it’s pretty obvious that you has to have similar game plan to Pudzian’s before his bout against Butterbean. You need to take it to the ground and go guns blazing there. Will your strategy look like this?
- Not really. I also can throw punches.
In the KSW 14 trailer you said that man usually argue about two things, women or money. You immediately added that Saleta was broke. Am I right thinking that your conflict was caused by a woman?
- It’s Saleta who says that this fight is personal for him, so you should ask him. For me it’s a normal sporting competition.
How does your last trainings look like? Do you just jog? (laughing)
- Come on.. who would want to do that. I just do bends and summersaults (laughing).
How will you spend the last days before the fight. Do you prefer to calm down and focus or you’ll live your normal life till the September 18th event?
- I always try to calm down a little bit. I usually go for a walk or watch the film and first and foremost have a lot of sleep.
Many people accuse you of being lazy. You take a punch, you fall down, fight ends and you get your money. They use your last boxing fight as an examples. People say that once you were knocked down, you supposedly couldn’t stand up, but you had the power to punch the ring with anger. Could you comment on that?
- Please recall my fight for the Polish Championship. In the second round I was knocked down twice. After the first hard one, I stood up and many referee would have stopped it already then. However, the fight was officiated by our formidable ref Leszek Jankowiak, whom I rate highly. Because the fight was for the title and although I was rocked he let us continue in order not to deprive me of my chance to win. I ate another shots and fall down once again. I was mad, that’s why I hit the mat. This irritation caused that I blacked out for a second and instead of standing up I laid there. Only an amateur or someone ill-disposed could see this the way you presented it in your question.
You’ve said that if you loose, which I don’t whish anyone, you’ll retire. Have you already thought about you future after combat sports career?
- No, because I want to win!
You’ve also said that if you’re victorious you’ll ask for the rematch against Mariusz Pudzianowski. You saw his progress in MMA at the open trainings. Do you think it’s a good idea to challenge him once again?
- I think, it’s a good idea. You have to objectively praise Mariusz’s progress. He’s in a really good shape.
Marcin, thanks for the interview and see you in Lodz.
- Yeah, unless I decide to run away (laughing).
