"I’m healthy, without injuries, it’s time to win" – interview with Artur Sowinski

Artur Sowinski will make his third appearance at the Martial Arts Confrontation shows on May 21st in Gdansk. In the recent months he fought in the KSW14 lightweight tournament as well as at the KSW Extra 2 – President Cup event. The talented Silesian Cage Club fighter talks about his upcoming KSW 16 bout and future fights in the extensive interview.

Hello Artur, last time we spoke you were happy to get another chance at KSW Extra 2 – President Cup. After a stunning victory, you’re back for KSW 16. How do you feel?
- Hi. After my victory at KSW Extra 2, I was offered a fight at KSW 16 on May 21st, which I’m really happy about. It’s a great honor for me and a lot of fun to be a part of such a huge show.
The KSW 16 video trailer promotes your fight as a beginning of your road to KSW lightweight title. Did you talk about the potential title shot with the KSW owners?
- I didn’t talk to them directly. My coach Tomasz Bronder deals with those things. I’m focused on my trainings and my fights, it’s the most important thing for me right now.
Would you like a rematch with Niko Puhakka for the title. You fought once before and he beat you. Do you have anything to prove to him?
- Not to him, to myself. Losing always hurts and you want to get the victory back. I’d like a rematch, but I don’t think about it now. I have a fight at KSW 16 which I need to win.
Ok let’s get back to your upcoming bout. You are set to face Cengiz Dana. His record may not be outstanding, but he’s an experienced veteran.
- Yeah, he’s experienced, he’s got more than thirty fights under his belt. It will be his biggest advantage in the fight. He’s also pretty well-rounded, solid stand-up and ground game. He obviously has some weaknesses which I’ll try to exploit.
Did you train specifically for him?
- That’s right. I watched a lot of his fights and sparred against fighters who mimicked his style.
Tell us about your preparations. - I trained in my gym Silesian Cage Club Katowice. My training camp was standard, just like before my previous fights. I’d like to thank my coach and training partners for the work they put into my preparations.
Do you have any injuries?
- Fortunately no. I haven’t had any major problems for quite some time. Let’s hope it doesn’t change.
Do you have any message to your opponent?
- Nope, we can talk after the fight.
Three weeks after KSW 16 you have a scheduled fight in Ireland. Isn’t it too close?
- If I’m unscathed at KSW 16, I’ll be alright. In my career I once fought twice in a week span, so three weeks shouldn’t be a problem. It all depends on my health.
You’ve already fought for this promotion, but this time you have a tougher opponent, right?
- I’m scheduled to face Conor McGregor, who has seven wins and two losses to his record. All his win came via KO or TKO. He’s regarded as the top Irish lightweight. I’ll do my best to defeat him.
Artur you’ve recently set up your own website www.artursowinski.pl. What’s the purpose of it?
- My friend Pawel Mis came up with the idea. I know him since we were kids and he closely follows my career. He wanted to gather all the news abut me in one place and a website is a perfect tool to do it. He presented me with a project of the site, which I gladly accepted and that’s how it started. I must say Pawel does an incredible job and the site is becoming more and more popular.
Artur thanks for the interview I whish you a lot victories, a lot of hits on your website and no injuries. If you want to thank any sponsors you have, now it’s the time.
- I want to thank Raf-Pol for their support, my coach and teammates, Pawel for the website as well as everyone who supports me. Once again big thanks!
