Krzysztof Kulak talks about his rematch with Michal Materla

We present you with a statement from KSW Middleweight Champion Krzysztof Kulak about his upcoming rematch with Michal Materla. The KSW Team fighter and Adrenalina Fight Czestochowa head coach also talks about his willingness to avenge Daniel Dowda’s loss to James Zikic.

- This rematch had to be booked. We both dropped to middleweight and again fight in the same weight category. We both have KSW championships belts. Michal is an outstanding BJJ specialist and a quality MMA fighter. He proved it many times. Even when he is in trouble, he always finds a way to pull out the victory. It happened at KSW6 and in Barlinek.
I know that he had a long break in his MMA career, but it’s absolutely no advantage for me, because I’m sure people like him accumulate energy and he’s definitely starving to fight and more importantly win. He may take this fight personally, but I don’t. I just want to prove that I’m a better fighter. All the arguments we had are already solved, at least for me. I know he trains in the best MMA gym in Poland, Berserkers Team Szczecin and trains with Daniel, so he’ll be even more eager to avenge his loss. That’s logical. When I beat Materla I’d like to avenge Kociao’s loss to James Zikic. That’s natural for me. My head is in the right place before this fight. I want to prove that the loss at KSW 6 was just a mistake. I haven’t started my preparations yet, I work out twice a week just for the pleasure. I swim and run, as I always do. It’s because I teach four classes a day, so I don’t have time for my training.
I really respect Piotr Baginski as I fighter and as a coach. The best fighters in Poland come from his gym: Jewtuszko, Materla, Bedorf or Fijalka. However, I’ve worked for ten years to have KSW. I trained, sweat and bled. I’ve probably injured all my bones and joints. Before my trip to Brazil I injured my spine and I was paralyzed for six weeks. I sometimes didn’t have motivation and doubted myself, for instance after three losses in a row in 2008. In January in Holland I took the fight with Stringer without any preparations and fought two rounds with him. I had to, because I didn’t have money to live and they were paying well. The same Stringer submitted Fijalka in Gdynia in June.
In May in Paris I was robbed against M’Pumbu, he even handed me his trophy. In Finland I was undersized, I didn’t have the strength to fight these big guys. I frequently didn’t have money to live and maybe that’s why MMA wasn’t fun any more after fifteen hours of work every day. That’s when I decided I would win the title and leave in glory. Now I want to defend it as many times as possible and show that Kulak (a fist in Russian) is tough and fights for respect, not women! Kulak was, is and will be the MMA champ –
