KSW 27 results: 9th straight victory for Khalidov, Pudizanowski beats Thompson

The best MMA fighter in Poland Mamed Khalidov added another spectacular victory to his impressive resume, submitting dangerous Brazilian Maiquel Falcao in the main event of KSW 27 – Cage Time show in Gdańsk / Sopot.

In front of the sold crowd of more than ten thousand people in beautiful Ergo Arena Falcao surprised the Polish hero with a quick takedown. However, the ground fighting expert from Arrachion MMA Olsztyn started to threaten his foe with submission attempts and powerful upkicks from his back. Later in the round Khalidov returned to his feet and scored a high-amplitude slam on the Brazilian. Even though the 33-year-old was able to sweep the Pole, a few seconds later he was forced to tap from a tight armbar.

Khalidov won his 9th consecutive fight and earned the 17th submission of his remarkable career.

In the co-main event of the show, Polish superstar Mariusz Pudzianowski earned his most valuable victory to date, beating Oli Thompson over the course of two five-minute rounds. “Pudzian” showed some great improvement in his striking and even threw a couple of head kicks but later relied on his wrestling and physical power to earn the judges nod. With his second consecutive victory over a UFC veteran, the future looks bright for the mighty Pole.

In one of the most eagerly expected KSW 27 bouts, the welterweight title fight, Borys Mańkowski avenged his loss to Aslambek Saidov, beating the champion by an outstanding triangle choke finnish. The Ankos Zapasy team product won the first five minutes with crisp boxing and well-timed takedown. When the defending champion was getting back to the fight in the second stanza, the fighter from Poznan caught him in a tight triangle choke, which, at 24 years old, earned him his first championship belt.

There was no upset in the women’s strawweight title fight. Undefeated Pole Karolina Kowalkiewicz defended her strap by dominating and submitting Austrian kickboxer Jasminka Cive. After the fight hit the ground in the beginning of the round, Gracie Barra Łódź representative quickly moved to mount and later took Cive’s back. It was a matter of time and patience before Kowalkiewicz was able to secure a fight ending armbar.

The anticipated middleweight showdown between the Polish striker Piotr Strus and Moroccan power puncher Abu Azaitar ended in a majority draw. Azaitar was more successful with his attacks in the first part of the bout, while Strus came back to fight later after his opponent got tired. Also on the main card Mateusz Gamrot earned his sixth career victory and the third one in KSW, easily outpointing Jefferson George, while the talented grappler Tomasz Narkun wasted no time submitting Charles Andrade in only 62 seconds.

In the two undercard bouts Rafał Błachuta once again show some slick submission skills putting the experienced Patrick Vallee in the scarf-hold armlock in the second stanza, while Łukasz Chlewicki made his return the promotion after nine years beating Łukasz Rajewski in the exciting back-and-forth battle.
