The first amateur event organized by KSW was a glaring success. More than sixty fighters from all over Poland competed on Sunday in the first KSW Amateur Cup. The participants were divided into two junior weight categories -70 kg and -84 kg as well as six senior divisions: -66 kg, -70 kg, -77 kg, -84 kg, -93 kg and +93 kg.

The fights were exciting and the amateur mixed martial artists fought their hearts out to win their matches. – Fighters really put on a show, we see bright future ahead of some of them – KSW Federation owners Maciej Kawulski and Martin Lewandowski reflected just after the cup. Many fans who attended the competition were also impressed with what they saw. – This Chechen is incredible. He’s very talented and if he doesn’t stop to evolve he might the next Mamed Khalidov – fans gave credit to featherweight division winner Anzor Azhiev.

There were many cheerful moments during the competition, but we also had one unpleasant incident. In the welterweight division semifinal, a back-and-forth, highly technical fight had to be stopped to due injury as Kamil Malinowski broke his arm. Fortunately he’s doing fine and promises to compete in the next KSW Amateur Cup.
Traditionally the heavyweights brought the biggest excitement among the audience in Jakubowo. Deafening chants of MMA Brodnica! and “Kamil, Kamil” accompanied Kamil Waluś from Copacabana Warszawa and Rafał Szpakowski from MMA Brodnica. The former was the true star of the cup. Born in Augustowo Waluś rushed all his opponents and took them out with flurries of punches. The fans really enjoyed his fighting style and looked forward to his consecutive outings. With such a strong support from the public, young fighter claimed the victory in the heaviest division and was awarded with a massive cup and prizes funded by Manto, Professional Fighter, MB M-Balance and All Stars.

The essential part of every competition like this is an officiating stuff. The KSW chief judge, the best MMA referee in Poland Tomasz Bronder supervised the officiating, while KSW fighters Jan Błachowicz, Łukasz Jurkowski, Antoni Chmielewski, Robert Radomski and Mateusz Teodorczuk worked as referees and judges. The whole event went smooth thanks to Artur Sowinski who prepared precise brackets so every fighter knew exactly when his fight was going down.
All in all, the first KSW Amateur Cup was a resounding success. Whoever attended the event in Jakubowo had a really good fun. Fights from the cup will be available soon on KSW Ipla internet TV. The extensive picture gallery is available here.
