"Kulak knows what awaits him in the ring" – interview with Daniel Dowda
What does Szczecin’s fighter Daniel Dowda think about his upcoming bout against Krzysztof Kulak? How does he react at Model’s trash talk? Answers for these and other questions can be found in the interview below.
Daniel I’ve heard that you are a Dragon Ball fighter, you are inconsistent and Krzysiek Kułak hopes that you’ll be out of shape in the fight against him. Do you want to comment on that?
- Krzysiek Kułak may hope for whatever he wants, for bad weather, my inconsistency... I’m confident in my abilities, my hard work and my heart. He’s obviously right about one thing, I don’t always fight to my true potential, but not this time.
Majority of MMA fans see Kulak as a favorite, Krzysiek himself is also sure of his victory. What do you think about it?
- Pre-fight speculation never interest me much. People can predict whatever they want and I know that Krzysiek is not sincere in what he says. He knows what awaits him at KSW 14...
Are you preparing any surprises for your opponent? Quick double-leg takedown, ground battle where you will show your dominance or something completely different?
- As I said earlier Krzysiek knows exactly what awaits him in the ring.
How are your preparations going. In July you’ll train at the KSW camp, do you plan any other “training trips”?
- Unfortunately I won’t be present at the camp. I don’t want to be around my opponent and act like everything is cool, because it won’t be. I want to win this fight no matter what happens and I’ll do it.
In your last outing against James Zikic your wrestling skills were not sufficient to take out the English fighter, you admitted it after the bout. In the Kulak fight it might also be a key element which will decide who will earn the W. Do you wrestle more than before?
- Of course, but I also train a lot of ground and stand-up technique.
We saw a progress in you boxing skills against Zikic. How would you rate your improvement in this area?
- I don’t want to take Krzysiek lightly, on the contrary. I think he has evolved in every aspect of the game and he matured as a fighter. However, I truly believe I’m a better mixed martial artist and that I’ll win at KSW 14.
How does your average training week look like. What do you work on the most, do you focus on strength and conditioning trainings?
- I’d like the details of my preparations to remain secret.
So what will be your strengths in this bout?
- I never give up. Whatever happens, however the fight unfolds, I’ll fight till the end. I would sooner die, than lose to Krzysiek. It’s not arrogance, I train for this bout like I never did in my whole life and I will leave everything God gave me in the ring. It cost me too much hard work to lose this fight.
We know that you had a long break because of the injury. However, the truth is that your last win was almost two years ago at KSW Extra, September 13th. I guess it’s time to win some fights?
- True, my last win was a long time ago (laugh). I like winning, I can’t deal with defeats well. I’m genetically a winner, not a loser.
Would like this fight be for the title? The potential loss for Kulak, would earn you a KSW World Title.
- I don’t care. It’s not about a belt, it means nothing. The victory is more valuable for me.
A week before KSW 14 a submission fighting event Grappling Arena is being held. Your name is on the participants list. Is it a good idea to take part in it a few days before such an important fight?
- No it’s not, that’s why I won’t participate in this event. I’m really sorry, because it’s a cool competition. Maybe next time.
A few words for Krzysiek to end the interview.
- Good luck.
Daniel thanks for your time and a lot of wins in your next fights.
- Thank you, greetings to everyone.
