Michal Andryszak: Winning the title opens the door to money, fame and harder fights
On Saturday night at KSW 43 the heavyweight title will be decided. Michal Andryszak (20-6) will take on top UK fighter Phil De Fries (14-6) with the winner being crowned the new KSW heavyweight champion.
Andryszak has garnered a firece reputation due to his record of finishing fighters (see below). He has nineteen first round wins to his name. The heavyweight division is an explosive one with a lot of challenges and Andryszak sees De Fries as another great test.
"He is a good fighter, especially on the ground. We were working on it to deal with his grappling skills," said Andryszak. "He is very dangerous off his back and when he is on top of you. He really has great movement on the ground for such a big guy."
During the video promo for the fight De Fries shared his opinion that he doesn’t think Andryszak has fought anyone of note but the Polish juggernaut disagees with this whole heartedly.
"He didn’t win with top names either. He only fought with some good fighters. I fought with few names which were higher in the rankings so he shouldn’t say this stuff. He is a really tough opponent but at least two of my previous rivals were better than Philip," stated Andryszak.
Speaking about the rankings, Andryszak sees himself as one of the best in Europe and that he also sees winning the KSW heavyweight title as a massive opportunity for his career.
"Right now I see myself as one of the best in Europe," said the 25-year-old. "Winning KSW heavyweight belt would be the biggest achievement in my career. It opens the door to the bigger money, fame and harder fights."
Earlier this week is made official that Mariusz Pudzianowski vs. Karol Bedorf is official for KSW 44 in June and it is rumoured that the winner of that fight will likely challenge for the title next. This makes for a big implications to the heavyweight title fight this weekend and Andryszak shared his thoughts on potentially facing Pudzianowski or Bedorf should he win the strap this weekend.
"This will be a great fight. The one who will be better prepared will win this clash," said Andryszak. "There are obvious reasons why I rather would like to fight with Mariusz. The most important one is that I train with Karol Bedorf from time to time and we know each other."
