Roberto Soldic steps in to face Borys Mańkowski for the title at KSW 41
There has been a change to the KSW 41 main event. Unfortunately Dricus du Plessis has suffered a hand injury which has ruled the two-weight EFC champion out of his title fight against Borys Mankowski (19-6-1). Now ’The Tasmanian Devil’ will defend his welterweight title against Croatian KO sensation Roberto Soldic (12-2) on December 23rd in Katowice, Poland.
22-year-old Soldic has emerged as one of Europe’s most exciting prospect in years. He is currently riding a six-fight-win-streak, all KO/TKO stoppages and over quality European fighters like Lewis Long, Ivica Truscek and Rafal Lewon. In total all but one of his career wins have come via stoppage thus making him a seriously dangerous opponent. Now, just three years after making his pro debut, he has the biggest opportunity of his young career and the chance to become KSW welterweight champion.
However, Mankowski has been KSW champion longer than Soldic has been a pro fighter and he will need to call upon this experience to deal with this young threat. The 28-year-old has already succesfully defended his title against all sorts of challengers like UFC & TUF vet Jesse Taylor, John Maguire, David Zawada and more.
In his last fight Mankowski stepped up to middleweight to challenge MMA legend Mamed Khalidov for his title in the main event of KSW 39 in front of nearly 58,000 people this past May. Although he came up short, he pushed Khalidov right down to the end giving the icon his toughest fight in years.
Mankowski vs. Soldic is a fight between contrasting styles, a fight between experience and youth, and a fight not to be missed.
