"Stand-up is my bread and butter" – interview with Eric “Butterbean” Esch

We present you with an interview with American heavyweight boxer, who on September 18th at KSW 14 will square off against b>Mariusz Pudzianowski. Eric Esch better known as Butterbean talks about his preparations for the fight against World’s Strongest Man and strategy to defeat the Polish superstar.

First of all I’d like to ask you about your recent interviews in US media and your challenge for Pudzianowski. Why do you want to fight him so suddenly?
- Please excuse me, but I’d rather not answer this question. I will fight Mariusz in KSW and it’s the only thing that matters.
You’ve probably seen all of his fights. What can you say about his MMA skills?
- That’s right I saw his three MMA fights, the one with Sylvia at Moosin I saw live. I can just say, that he’s got a lot of work to do.
How do you won’t to beat him at 14th Martial Arts Confrontation?
- My stand-up is superior to his and it’s my biggest asset in this bout. Our grappling skills are on par. I will try to keep it standing as long as possible and win it there.
So as befits a pro boxer you want to knock him out, right?
- Exactly, that’s what I want to do.
I won’t be surprised if Pudzianowski tries to take you down. Will you be ready for that? How good is your ground game?
- I’m a boxer and it’s obvious I prefer to fight standing. On the ground I’m not a world-beater, but I’m not a slouch either.
You trained in American Top Team in the past. Are you going to train there before KSW 14?
- I’m training for this fight with my two sons. They’re both really strong guys and they suit me well as sparing partners.
So how are your preparations going?
- Everything is going as planned. You’ll see the result in the KSW ring.
Have you ever heard about KSW before?
- Sure, you do pretty good shows, which are great to watch.
The audience in Poland always supports Mariusz Pudzianowski passionately . Will the wild cheering for your opponent affect you?
- It doesn’t affect me at all. I also have many fans and friends all over the world and don’t be surprised to hear Butterbean chants during this fight.
What can you say about Mariusz’s strong sides?
- He’s very strong, it’s his biggest advantage.
Does he have weaknesses?
- Sure!
What are they?
- His stand-up game is very poor.
Eric thanks for the interview and see you in September.
- No problem. Greetings to all the fans, see you in Poland!
