"This fight is an honor and an obligation" – interview with Artur Sowinski

His fight at the fourteenth Martial Arts Confrontation happened to be one of the most exciting ones. Although he fell short of wining the ring battle, the KSW owners decided to give him another chance at the KSW Extra 2 – President Cup show. On January 29th in Elk Artur Sowinski will try to bounce back after his to loss to Van Bergen, but before that we present you with the interview with the lightweight warrior. The Popular Kornik talks about his injury, next KSW bout and preparations.

Hello Artur. At the beginning please tell us how is your hand. From what I know you broke it in the first round of your KSW 14 fight. Is everything alright?
- Hi, that’s right I broke my metacarpal bone. Fortunately it’s healed up by now and everything is fine.
How long was your break?
- I was back in the gym after two weeks. At the beginning I trained with a cast on my hand. Later I had to really watch out for it, so the work outs were limited. With the time I started to feel that it’s getting better and then I could start a normal training with standard exercises and sparring sessions.
Are you 100% now? Did you have any other injuries?
- Well, MMA is a contact sport, so you always have minor injuries. Fortunately since KSW 14 I didn’t suffer from anything severe and my training weren’t affected.
Let’s talk about you upcoming bout at KSW Extra 2 – President Cup. We don’t know your opponent yet, but please tell us about your preparations.
- As I said before I don’t have any injuries so I feel really well. The health during the preparations is essential. I train as usual under my coach Tomasz Bronder in Silesian Cage Club Katowice. I’d like to thank all my friends from our gym for their help in my preparations.
Do you plan to visit any foreign gyms just like you did before KSW 14?
- Not this time. I have some plans to visit a few different gyms in Poland to train with new sparring partners, but I can tell you more about it when this idea materializes.
What aspects of the MMA game you focus on the most?
- There is one thing I really work on a lot, but don’t want to reveal it. I hope I can show it during my fight.
You’ve probably analyzed your last bout, what mistakes did you make?
- I learnt a lot from this loss. Apart from technical things I need to improve, this fight also showed the lack of consistency in following the planned strategy. I wasn’t focused enough and lost the fight I should’ve won. I won’t make the same mistakes for the second time.
Your fight is scheduled as one of the two extra fights in Elk. It’s a huge honor, isn’t it?
- For sure. I’m very happy that KSW gave me another chance. It’s not only an honor, it’s an obligation. I hope that I’ll give the fans even a better fight than last time and I’ll leave the ring victorious.
Did KSW 14 participation change anything in your life?
- Every fight is a new experience, especially on such a big stage. It’s valuable and I hope it helps in my next bouts. Getting used to cameras, lights and huge crowds is also important. I think I handled it pretty well so I look forward to the future KSW fights.
What are your plans for 2011. What’s next after KSW Extra?
- I want to fight as often as possible. Health permitting, I’d like to fight seven times in 2011. When I was an amateur I competed a few times each month, while in 2010 I had only five pro bouts. I’m starving for new challenges, so my goal for 2011 is to fight as often as possible.
To end the interview please invite the fans to watch or attend the KSW Extra show.
- I think that the show doesn’t need any special advertising, however I invite you all to KSW Extra in Elk. It will be an interesting event even for those who are not hardcore MMA fans. You don’t want to miss another outstanding KSW show.
