"Trainings with Soszyński are the opportunity to verify training methods" – interview with Piotr Jeleniewski

In July KSW Federation will hold its 10th KSW camp. It will be a special one for many reasons. For the first time in history a coach from abroad will be present, we will be in Giżycko for the first time and there will two turns. One of the Polish coaches Piotr Jeleniewski talks about the camp in the interview below. Enjoy the reading.

Hello Piotr. How many times have you been a coach at KSW camps so far?

 - It will be my third time.

How do you remember the past camps?

-Both summer and winter camps were a great time spent with cool people, who created unforgettable atmosphere during trainings as well as after them.

What can you say about the sporting level of the camps’ participants?

-It varies. There are fighters who already compete in MMA as well as complete novices. However, I’m sure everyone gets something from the collective trainings, both pros and beginners. What’s more training with KSW fighters gives you the unique chance to meet them in person. I think it’s a great experience to spar with Borys Mańkowski, feel the grappling prowess of Mamed Khalidov or learn techniques from Michał Materla or Jan Błachowicz.

You have your own PJ Promotion Group, where you have mostly young fighters such as Anzor Azhiev under your banner. Have you spotted any talented mixed martial artists during the camps, that may soon join your team?

-Indeed I have. Kuba Kowalewicz is the great example. I met him at the KSW camp and he made a great impression on me. Now we work together. I saw many other talented and I root for them. I think some of them will achieve great success and I hope training at the KSW camps will help in their careers.

How will the upcoming camp differ from the previous ones?

-First and foremost we invited a coach from abroad – Krzysztof Soszyński. The camp will also have a different structure. Trainings will be divided into few-day theme blocks, so the knowledge handed to the participants is coherent and logical. One training a day will be a seminar.

I’ve heard that you and Michal Garnys prepare training schedule for each day of each turn. Please tell us what do you plan for the eager MMA enthusiast who will visit the camp.

-As I said before, we want to maximize the coaching potential of Krzysztof Soszyński and Marcin Różalski so every participant can learn from them as much as possible. That’s why we prepared this brand new schedule to suit this goal. Additionally, there will be other KSW regulars at the camp, so everybody will find something for themselves.

Krzysztof Soszyński, one of the few Poles to ever fight for UFC, will be the main attraction of two turns of the camp. What can you say about him being a coach?

-It’s a unique opportunity to train with Krzysztof Soszyński for the first time in Poland. He’s not only a famous fighter, but also a seasoned coach and a man with a wide knowledge. I feel honored to have the ability to work along with him and also be a coach at the KSW camp.

You have worked with many more or less experienced fighters. What do you think the camp’s participants could learn from Krzysztof and what do you want to pick up from him?

-I think, for the most part, we will be able to verify our training methods with those from the States. For me it’s the most intriguing aspect of his presence. The structure of training camps and fight preparations, that’s what I’d like to pick up from him as well.

Besides you and Soszyński, Marcin Różalski and Michał Garnys will serve as the coaches at the camp. What can you tell about them?

-As for Michał Garnys, he is the person without whom I wouldn’t be able to build any fighter. Huge part of my knowledge in the topics of preparations, conditioning and other body related issues come from him. I cooperate with him on a daily basis with my PJ Promotion Group and his help is essential to properly rate fighters’ physical condition before and during their fight preparations. As for Marcin Różalski, I consider him a friend. I had the opportunity to observe what great of a coach he is. His extensive striking experience and charisma create unforgettable atmosphere during trainings. “Różal” has a great eye to catch even little mistakes his understudies make and he teaches his craft in a very open-minded manner.

What can you tell to anyone who is not yet decided to attend the 10th KSW camp.

-I sincerely invite you to experience the unforgettable MMA adventure, no matter if you are more experienced in the sport or only a beginner. Take a chance to learn mixed martial arts from Krzysztof Soszyński or Marcin Różalski.
